South Oakland Shelter – June 18-25

SOS is Coming to St. Regis and We Need Your Help!

South Oakland Shelter (SOS) works to reduce the impact and prevalence of homelessness in Southeast Michigan. SOS partners with 95 congregations to provide temporary lodging and supportive services to help displaced families and individuals break the cycle of homelessness, and live independently. With an emphasis on homeless prevention, sustainable housing solutions and career development, SOS implements strategies and programs that provide realistic options for homeless and at-risk people seeking stabilization and self-sufficiency.

The shelter houses a maximum of 35 people. Mattresses, pillows and linens are provided and transported from church to church.  During the week it hosts SOS, each host church provides transportation, dinner, breakfast and bag lunches.

We will need 250 volunteers to help with meals, laundry, night supervision, transportation and more. We are also looking for a barber or hair stylist to give our guests haircuts. Please mark your calendar now and plan to help. We have a full range of commitments starting with 30-minute jobs. We also have needs that can be filled by those who will be out of town. Click here to volunteer! Please note that there are several tabs at the top of the SignUpGenius page, so you can choose the area with which you would like to help.

Please contact Kathleen Mastrangelo (kjlm68@gmail.com) or Sue Butkovich (butkovich@comcast.net) with questions or call the parish office.
